Stress attacks can not be easily predicted. They begin out of the blue, can occur anywhere, and the signs and symptoms might be frightening because of their being similar to a cardiac event. Sufferers become dizzy or feel faint, and frequently experience chest discomfort or a feeling of constriction. The heartbeat speeds up considerably, and the stomach may become upset. Many sufferers experience a sense of impending disaster or dying, and may begin to tremble and sweat abundantly.

The episodes are from time to time based on a feeling of unreality and restricted vision, and can be absolutely terrifying. They are seen more in adult women than males, but aren’t specific to gender. They are more uncommon in kids. People who undergo them frequently believe that they are simply losing control of their body and mind, and may “hightail it” in a threatening situation, puzzling people around them.

The overwhelming emotion being expressed is fear, but not a fear based on imminent danger, or even a genuine threat. The attacks express a form of anxiety which may or may not have a real relation to a particular situation. They usually begin without warning, and the sudden symptoms create their own destructive feedback, meaning that they only compound the problem by creating even more discomfort.

This kind of panic attack imitates other illnesses, even though some physical causes are relatively simple to isolate. Any substance that functions like a stimulant can provoke a panic attack in sensitive people, including coffee, nicotine, cocaine, or methamphetamine based drugs. Short-term but distressing alterations in living situations, for example lack of someone or job, may also be an issue. The signs and symptoms could be intensified by withdrawal from alcohol or tranquilizers, when some experience a nervous rebound effect towards the sedation.

The mental causes are more difficult to determine, because there is no single common origin. Some people experience panic when faced with a phobic situation that they anticipate and dread, or when a particular physical object or animal is encountered. Other people react physically when placed in a particularly stressful scenario, such as a high-pressure job with little backup or support, attending college classes, or working within a group of competitive people in a high-stakes environment.

The signs and symptoms are really an answer to fear, despite the fact that that danger may really only make itself known mentally. While very disturbing within the short term, most attacks last under an hour or so, and several for 20 minutes or less. If not supported by a real medical problem, the brilliant feelings ebb, departing with the sufferer exhausted, but otherwise unscathed. For a lot of, however, the complete dread of the repeat attack is constant and debilitating.

There is not one cure or treatment. When episodes become so intense that normal existence becomes dysfunctional, medicines, for example mao inhibitors, are generally recommended. This medicine may hinder anxiety reactions, while lowering the associated depression. Their common unwanted effects, however, ensure that they are unacceptable for many patients. Antidepressant medications normally take 2 to 4 days to become fully effective, and are not appropriate for everybody.

Tranquilizers might be recommended for brief period of time, but are not considered a longterm solution. With time, many people require progressively greater doses to keep the correct effect. They reduce stress initially, however it usually returns after medic is stopped. Instead of giving drugs, most practitioners aim to combat out of control panic and anxiety with treatment for example psychotherapy, which will help train people particularly how to combat their destructive thought designs.

Other treatments for stress attacks include repeated connection with personal stress factors in the totally non-threatening and controlled atmosphere. With elevated connection with anxiety comes less fear, ultimately enabling it to dissipate completely. Becoming alert to personal physical responses, and finding out how to combat them without drugs, can be achieved with the guidance from the experienced professional counselor focusing in stress disorders.

Even though most symptoms are emotionally based, panic attacks are not a figment of the imagination, but a real and treatable issue. Many self-help tips are available for short-term relief, but people who have the symptoms should not hesitate to see a doctor, even when they are loathe to undergo therapy. Life without this burden is possible, and many people have successfully learned how to live without the fear of being overtaken by yet another episode.

Commitment phobia, like most unrealistic fears, is an automatic response by the human mind to protect a person against something perceived, or inaccurately judged, as a threat. Such a phobia of commitment might affect the person’s life in general, but is particularly concerned with getting, or staying involved, in long term relationships. It’s also likely to have an impact on a sufferer’s professional life. These folk might find it hard to offer an employer a long term engagement as a worker. To help overcome this debilitating condition, here are five steps that have helped many to shake the grip of its hold.

Feelings of uncertainty and fears of being caught up in a relationship are some of the common symptoms of this condition. Such anxieties might invoke the need to sabotage developing relationships perceived as threatening. That’s why sometimes afflicted individuals might come consistently late for work or pitch up late for dates for no apparent reason.

In terms of how to deal with the problem, the underlying assumption is that some unresolved emotional conflict from the past keeps intruding when it comes to making commitments. Through psychotherapy it’s possible to become aware of this root conflict and learn to resolve it. This means realizing the unrealistic nature of one’s anxiousness, and dealing with it over time in order to make it disappear.

To try and resolve this condition quickly many folk have undergone hypno-analalysis. It’s a non-invasive therapy derived from hypnosis that gets to the root cause of the issue instead of merely trying manage its symptoms. The fact that it’s effective in a relatively short period of time makes it an appealing avenue to explore.

When the fear that immense changes to one’s habits and lifestyle are about to take place as a consequence of settling into a relationship has been addressed and shown to be unfounded, it can be source of relief. This is especially the case where these issues are not as deep-rooted and longstanding. Such reassurances from significant others, when accompanied by action is therefore enough to help address the problem for some people.

Acknowledgment of anxieties about losing one’s independence when getting involved in an ongoing meaningful association is also necessary to help overcome it. Significant changes in the sufferer’s mental state can be brought about when this issue is not resisted and openly addressed with others that matter. A context of trust, understanding and empathy is important to allow a person to open up when speaking about such matters.

It’s also vital that the suffering individual gets to speak openly about related anxieties and misgivings with empathic listeners, whether an employer or potential lover. Such open sharing of one’s fears brings more of the trouble to the healing light of awareness, and helps to solidify the realization that becoming involved doesn’t spell the end of the world. This is a way of practicing commitment skills and helps to erode the phobic condition.

To resolve the phobia of commitment requires patience. It also depends on the nature of the person’s affliction and present life circumstances as these can influence how quickly or not an individual responds to interventions. What these suggestions hopefully make clear though is that overcoming this problem is possible and that there’s no need to remain a victim for life because of perceptions formed during childhood years.

Also commonly referred to as public speaking phobia, public speaking fear, public speaking anxiety, presentation anxiety, performance anxiety, performance nerves or stage fright. In many surveys, the fear of public speaking is often ranked as the number one fear. Surprisingly many people will rank the fear of public speaking higher than the fear of death.

The effects of the fight or flight response are what you experience whenever you feel anxiety or fear. It is our minds way of preparing us physically so that we can respond quickly and effectively in dangerous situations. The idea being that we have the energy and reactions to either run away from, or fight the threat. The perceived threat that triggers the response can be physical or psychological in nature (e.g. potential physical harm, looking foolish, making a scene, not being liked or accepted, appearing weak etc.). The fight or flight response actually functions remarkably well, however problems arise when it is triggered in situations in which we can’t simply fight our way out of, or run away from. Such as meetings, presentations, performances or speeches.

The fight or flight response produces a number of effects within our body as it gears us up to physically respond to a threat. Our muscles tense ready for action, we breath more rapidly to increase our oxygen levels. Our heart beats faster to pump blood to the muscles, lungs and brain. Many processes not immediately necessary for fighting or fleeing such as reproduction or digestion slow or stop.

Symptoms of public speaking anxiety may include: sweating, a lump in the throat, racing heart, breathing difficulties, shaking, feeling light-headed, going blank, loss of concentration, tingling, a need to urinate, digestive problems, tension, stammering, aches, sense of inferiority, inadequacy, weakness or shame.

The fear of public speaking is an anxiety, and like all anxieties it ultimately begins with your thoughts about the current or possible future situations. You may be aware of these thoughts, but often they are just outside our conscious awareness. If your mind perceives a threat then it triggers the release of the various stress hormones into the body which produces the symptoms you experience.

The part of your mind that deals with anxiety doesn’t really tell the difference between reality and imagination. So thinking about a future situation in a negative way, by worrying or ‘what-if’-ing will actually activate the fight or flight system, in much the same way as if you were there in reality.

If you have experienced anxiety then you will most likely have tried to control it using will-power alone, and probably failed in the process. Due to the way anxiety works, it is very hard to fight head on. Usually the more you attempt to control and fight it, the worse it will actually get! An obvious solution is not to try to control the symptoms, but to flow with them where possible and focus on and change what’s actually causing them.

Anxiety starts with a thought in which an interpretation of danger is made about a situation. As it starts with a thought then the most rational place to start making changes is with your problematic thoughts. If the problematic thoughts are changed so that a situation is no longer considered a danger then the anxiety is never triggered. The process of changing your thoughts is actually easier than most people realise. Any experienced psychotherapist should be able to help.

Common situations which can trigger fear of public speaking and stage fright can include any situation where you become the centre of attention and feel you are being judged negatively: presentations, acting auditions and performances, musical performances, meetings, interviews, wedding speeches, exams, speaking on the telephone (particularly when in front of others).

When anxiety causes distress or interference that is much greater than anxiety experienced by other children of the same age, it may be called an anxiety disorder. In this case, the term “disorder” simply indicates that the anxiety problem is significant enough and has lasted long enough (usually at least a number of weeks or months) to be considered a problem that warrants intervention. Commonly, children and teens experience anxiety problems that are characteristic of more than one anxiety disorder. Fortunately, the helpful approaches are similar for various anxiety problems.

If your child has been diagnosed as having a mild to moderate anxiety disorder, it will most likely fit into this list of seven anxiety disorders and subtypes:

Separation Anxiety Disorder
Specific Phobias
social anxiety Disorder
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Panic Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
