I have Asperger’s syndrome, and social anxiety as a result. I don’t want to take meds and there isn’t any cognitive behavioral therapy remotely nearby, so I’m looking into acupuncture. Anyone who’s tried acupuncture for anxiety, what’s it like? How effective was it? Do you have to get it regularly for it to work?
Acupuncture can help manage anxiety in many cases. Often it will take more time for the therapeutic effects of acupuncture to be realized over pharmacological interventions because it is a more mild treatment. The upside is less negative side-effects.
In my clinical experience you are looking at 6 to 8 weeks of treatment for the anxiety to come under management, although, it can take longer in some cases. You may need to continue monthly treatments to manage the anxiety. However, everyone responds individually to medical treatments so there is no way to know if this will hold true for you.
acupuncture has no scientific validity, its based on old thinking that was around in the beginnings of medicine, when it was though illnesses were caused by imbalanced humors, as opposed to genetic defects, infections, injuries, and poisoning.
take the medicine, those are required to have demonstrated that they treat what they claim to.

It might take a series of treatments or it might only take a few. The Chinese practitioner will be able to tell you more.
The new medicine of today has discovered that many old and ancient therapies really did work. The pharmaceutical companies have everything to gain by making us believe that these alternative therapies are useless and everything to lose if people find out they do not have to spend a fortune to dose themselves with chemicals and suffer the toxic results in their system. How can you argue with thousands of years of tradition? Our bodies are so very much more than diseases and conditions. We are complex organisms that function is a multitude of ways.
I have used acupuncture for years, but I have not tried it for anxiety.

I am impressed that you do not wish to take drugs that will only mask the condition and not help your body to alleviate it.
Acupuncture can assist in opening the channels for your body to heal.
